Billy Frank Maness passed from this life to his maker on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at his home in Stephenville, Texas, Erath County.  He resided in the Timbers Hills Area of Erath County.  His passing was unexpected but blessedly serene and his loving wife and partner in all things was with him at the time of his passing.  Excellent first responders came to the home to help with Bill’s care and transport to the Stephenville Funeral Home for preparation for his eternal rest in the arms of a loving Father. 

Funeral services for Bill will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 31th at Stephenville Funeral Home.  Visitation with the Maness family will begin at 1:00 PM, one hour prior to his funeral service.  On Monday, June 6th at 2:30 PM at the DFW National Cemetery, in Dallas, Texas, Bill’s body will be laid to rest with Naval Military Honors.  All family and friends are welcome to attend his interment service.

Bill Maness was born in Independence, Missouri on November 10, 1945, was 76 years of age at his passing.  Bill’s father was John David Maness and his mother was Ruth Maxine Dawson Maness.  Both are deceased. 

Bill is survived by his wife of twenty years, Paula Faulk Maness.  He and Paula were married on December 21, 2002 at the Lake Leon Baptist Church in Eastland County and remain devoted to one another at his passing.  Bill was married one time before to the mother of his children, Faye Laverne (Necessary) Maness, for close to 30 years until her death October 31, 2000.  They had a wonderful life together and enjoyed their home and children in Houston, Texas before her death. 

Bill has two brothers.  David and wife Jo Maness and Leroy Greene, residing in the DFW area.

Bill is also is survived by four children and their families.  His daughter is Kristie Lee Maness of Houston, Texas.  Sons, Michael Scott Maness, his wife Leslie and Grandson J.P. Maness residing in Kansas City, Kansas; Devin Dain Maness and Granddaughter Maya Maness in the DFW area. Stepson and wife, Carl Wayne Elliott and wife Johna.  Bill’s great grandson Will O’Dell lives in Brownwood with them. 

Bill was an electrical designer and electrician.  He set an example for his children in work ethic and life and returned to Tarleton State University late in life to complete a BAAS in 2007 graduating Magna Cum Laude with membership in Alpha Chi within the College of Science and Technology because he wanted them to complete their education.  They have done well with that example. 

Bill’s active military service included:  Proudly served in the US Navy Submarines Force during 1964-70 onboard the USS Tang (SS-563) and USS Henry Clay (SSBN-625) Gold. Bill served as an electrician IC1(SS) E-6 before receiving an honorable discharge.  He honored the Flag of our country and prayed daily that our nation would become stronger and maintain the freedoms he and other had served to preserve.

Bill was a Baptist.  He loved working with animals and keep many pets  He worked on many different projects and was very creative at designing and building projects that kept his interest.  He was a good mechanic and rebuilt many cars and motorcycles in his lifetime. 

Bill had a great interest in and love for the Navy Submarine Service and worked with the Disabled American Veterans Office as current Commander Chapter 234 in Stephenville, Texas.  Bill was a Life Member in the United States Submarine Veterans Group, Cowtown Base in the DFW area.

Bill had a passionate interest in seeing that Veteran’s needs were addressed and that they got the benefits needed to have a quality of life in all things. 

The Maness family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Erath County Humane Society.
