February 17, 1948 ~ May 24, 2022 (age 74)
Robert (Bob) Gene Phillips, age 74, of Stephenville, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on the night of May 24, 2022. He fought hard during a 2 month stay in the hospital due to having a stroke. A memorial service will be held at Stephenville Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
Bob was born on February 17, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois to Golden Phillips and Maude Sprouse Phillips. He was the youngest of nine children. After high school, he joined the Army. While in the Army he served in Vietnam and was stationed at several different military bases around the world. His last duty station was Fort Bliss, Texas. While stationed there, he met the love of his life, Wanda. He and Wanda were soon married on July 6, 1984. They blended their families from previous marriages, and raised their seven children together.
Bob retired after twenty years of service in 1987. After retirement from the Army, he worked several security jobs. His favorite job was security at White Sands Missile Range.
In 2001 while visiting in the Stephenville area, he and Wanda fell in love with the area and moved here from El Paso, Texas. Shortly thereafter he started working at Walmart. One of his jobs was putting bikes together, where he acquired the name “Bob the Builder”, from fellow associates.
Bob was a member of the Huckaby Church of Christ. He loved his church family. He was a very generous man willing to help anyone in need. He was an extremely devoted family man. He loved the Texas Rangers and rarely missed a Dallas Cowboys game. He was an avid golfer as well.
Bob is survived by his wife, Wanda Phillips, of Stephenville, Texas; brother, Bill Phillips, of Galesburg, Illinois; sons, Steven Phillips and wife Terri of Datil, New Mexico, Rodney Phillips and wife Stephanie of Bluff City, Tennessee, Timothy Phillips and wife Gabby of Venus, Texas, Randy Few and wife Cheryl of Hampton, Tennessee; daughters, Jennifer Bagley of Stephenville, Texas, Dawn Few of Stephenville, Texas, Connie Avatia and husband Danny of Stephenville, Texas; twenty nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
