STEPHENVILLE — Graduates of Tarleton’s Master of Accounting and BBA accounting programs again passed the state CPA exam at a higher rate than most other Texas programs.

The state boasts about 40 programs whose graduates regularly average three or more sections of the exam each month, including Texas A&M College Station and five more that are much larger than the others.

With a CPA pass rate of 50 percent, Tarleton’s MAcc program ranks in the Top 10 and ahead of a number of more exclusive and expensive programs. Tarleton graduates’ performance matches that of University of North Texas’ Denton campus and UNT Dallas.

“Outstanding performance of our graduates, over many years, reflects the hard work our students demonstrate in classes,” said Dr. James Goodpasture, Director of Tarleton’s Master of Accounting program, noting the 57 percent pass rates on the BEC and REG sections of the exam.

“We have some fine students who go on to become excellent professional accountants — and that goes for our undergraduates and our graduate students who contribute to these strong pass rates.”

Dr. Derrill Watson, Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics Chair, said growing the program has been a team effort.

“Our faculty do outstanding work,” he said. “They maintain high standards and care about student performance, many of them going out of their way to help individual struggling students succeed.”
