(May 27, 1941 – August 16, 2022)

Leonor “Nony” Godwin (1941 — 2022) passed from this life at the age of 81 in Hico, TX. after a lifetime spent as an entrepreneur. Known throughout the community as a caregiver, Nony ran a daycare in her home in Stephenville for 38 years and babysat many area children. After escaping from Europe as part of the Sephardic Jewish community as a small child, Nony settled, along with her family, in Mexico where she grew up. She was bilingual and assisted many people in the area with translation services. She also owned and managed a thriving rental property business. She and her late husband, Tarleton professor R. D. Godwin, lived in Spain and traveled throughout Europe for some time and later hosted many international students from Tarleton in their home over the years. As a result, she had many friends worldwide with whom she remained in contact each year through cards and pictures and phone calls.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-love, Holly and Kevin Stahnke, of Hico, TX, as well as their children whom she was very proud of: Rainey, Nathaniel, Phillip, Shade, and Magnolia. She is also survived by her son, Edward Godwin, of Round Rock, TX; her daughter, Marcille Godwin, of Grand Rapids, MI; her niece, Pilar Girón and fiancé, Sean, of Houston, TX; great-nieces and -nephews, Dania, Alejandro, Paulina, Isaac, Marcela; her dear friend, Beverly Copeland, of Eastland, TX; a niece, Kamala Platt; a nephew, Reynaldo Girón; a nephew, Richard Platt, and wife, Juliette; and a brother-in-law, Dwight Platt.

Remembrances can be made in the form of a donation to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
