It is not often a freshman athlete picks up an award after the first three games of their career.

No matter for Ailie Hair though, as the Western Athletic Conference announced Monday that the freshman middle blocker was named the WAC Volleyball Freshman of the Week.

Hair got off to a strong start in the first three matches of her collegiate career. She started all three of Tarleton’s matches and was a force at the net all weekend helping the Texans to a 3-0 start.

Over the weekend Hair compiled 21 kills while hitting at an impressive .436 clip which paced the WAC. She finished the weekend with eight blocks (four solo) and a team-high seven service aces.

Tarleton’s first match of the season vs. Fairleigh Dickinson was a big indicator that Hair could make an instant impact as she totaled 10 kills on 15 attempts (.667) while adding two service aces, a dig and two blocks.

Hair and the Texans will make the trip to Lubbock on Tuesday for a showdown with Texas Tech. First serve is at 6 p.m. and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
