STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University Professor Dr. Kristina Downs’ virtual presentation on outlaw legends kicks off a new season of Texas Talks with the Texas State Historical Association at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Admission is free for TSHA members and $5 for the public. For reservations visit https://tarletonstate.us/outlaw.
Downs, the Executive Director of the Texas Folklore Society, as well as an Assistant Professor of English at Tarleton, will discuss that while outlaw legends are not unique to Texas, the Lone Star State does have an unusually high concentration. The season-opening talk will explore common themes among outlaw legends, including social banditry and faked deaths. It will consider how Texas history and folklore have given the state’s legends their particular flavor.
