Mitchell Dukes, beloved husband, father, and Pops passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 15th, 2022 at the age of 54 in Fort Worth, Texas. His battle with stage 4 cancer the last three years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile and a “don’t worry about me” attitude.

An avid, professional truck driver and all-around family man, Mitchell was born in 1968 to parents Janice and Richard Dukes in Corpus Christi. He had two sisters named Debbie and Shaena. Growing up, you could find Mitchell on the football field or basketball court playing for the Sidney Eagles. After high school, you could find him racing the drag with his friends or fixing vehicles for friends and family.

In 1988, Mitchell met his soul mate and the love of his life, Kristi. Mitchell was working at a gas station next to Country Boys Food Store, and one afternoon he went in and saw Kristi working. Day by day, he went into the food store to see her because he had developed a crush on her. After not even 6 months of dating, the two wed on December 14th, 1988. Four years after their wedding, they welcomed their first daughter Stormi into the world in 1991. Six years after that in 1997, their second daughter Rayni was born. Their first grandson Justin was born in 2016, and the second one, Kannon, was born in 2018.

Mitchell thrived as a truck driver, and his love for semi-trucks showed in his work life, as well as his personal life. He never found a truck he couldn’t drive, delivering many different hauls and loads over the course of his life as a trucker. From hauling rock, gravel, oil, and machinery in New Mexico for 20 years, to returning home to Texas in 2019 and hauling feed until his passing, Mitchell never took a break on doing what he loved; driving trucks and being with his family.

In August of 2019, Mitchell was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasised to his liver. On August 12th, 2019, he had his first surgery to remove 4 inches of cancerous colon. September 9th, 2019 was his first treatment of chemotherapy. He battled hard for 3 years and never let cancer slow him down. After his cancer in the liver had become more aggressive and nonresponsive to chemo, he had surgery to remove 75% of his liver on August 22nd, 2022.

Mitchell was cancer free for 24 days before he unexpectedly passed away at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas on September 15th, 2022 at 5:33 am. He passed away with his beloved wife Kristi by his side.

Mitchell was a loving husband, son, brother, Pops, and friend. If you knew him, you knew a country boy that would help anyone in need. He was a bright, constant light in his family and will be missed beyond measure. To know him was to love him, and to love him was to love strength, loyalty, and family. He will be missed by his wife Kristi, daughter Stormi, her husband Brandon, grandson Justin, daughter Rayni, her partner Jon, youngest grandson Kannon, mother Janice, sisters Debbie and Shaena, as well as many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Richard.
