LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Tarleton’s defense withstood an offensive onslaught from the New Mexico State Aggies Friday night. The host Aggies put up 25 shots, including 12 on goal, in a 4-0 victory over the Texans.

Tarleton found itself down two goalkeepers on the night with injuries to Mikayla Kendall and Rylie Bloomfield. forcing assistant coach Delaney Castor out of retirement and back into the net. Castor, who has a year of eligibility remaining, stepped up in a big way for the Texans against a powerful offensive attack from the Aggies.

The Texans struggled to keep the Aggies from firing away on the newly-inserted keeper as the Aggies made 25 shot attempts for the match, put 12 on goal, and four in the back of the net in a one-sided affair. In comparison, Tarleton managed only three shots with two on goal. New Mexico State had 13 corner kick opportunities while Tarleton had none.

Tarleton held its own for the opening 45 minutes, allowing just a single goal to the Aggies off a corner kick in the 23′. The second half was all New Mexico State with three goals over a 22-minute stretch. One came off a set piece from the corner.

Castor recorded eight saves on the night, which is the most by a Texan keeper this season. Kyra Goudzwaard, Mila Bettinelli, and Macy Hellwig put up the three shots for Tarleton.

Tarleton will have a chance to rebound with a 1 p.m. match against Sam Houston in Huntsville Sunday.
