Bees sting Lady Tigers Tuesday

The #16 Stephenville Honeybees (23-8, 3-0) now sit alone at the top of District 6, 4A after beating the #19 Glen Rose Lady Tigers (21-10, 2-1) Tuesday evening in four sets (16-25, 25-18, 21-25, 14-25).

The two teams were tied but with the win, Stephenville moves into first place in district play. Both teams remain in the top 20 in the state according to the TGCA poll.

The Bees took the court in Gandy Gym ready to go Tuesday, defeating the Lady Tigers handedly in the first set, but the momentum shifted during the second set and Glen Rose bested the Bees. However, during a brief huddle in the third set, Stephenville head coach Shay Douglas got the girls’ back in the match.

After winning the third set by a narrow margin, Stephenville went on to take the next set, the final set, easily. The win ensures the Bees are in first place alone in district play, but there are several matches left.

Next up for Stephenville will be the Friday match against Graham at GHS at 5 p.m. The Lady Steers are 23-10, 2-1 in district play, which ties them with Glen Rose for second place in District 6, 4A. On Tuesday, October 11, the Bees will travel to Brownwood for the rematch against the Lady Lions.
