NACOGDOCHES – The Texans were hitting on all cylinders Thursday night as three freshmen found the back of SFA’s net four times in win against WAC rival at SFA Soccer Field.

Tarleton (5-9-3, 1-7-2 WAC) earned their first WAC win of the season through efficient and skillful play on both sides of the pitch. Freshman forward Mila Bettinelli scored two goals in the first half, both coming off textbook headers in the penalty area. Bettinelli now has one game with multiple scores and eight total career goals.

Freshman defender Sydney Rouillard picked up her third goal of the season off a second touch shot just outside the goal area coming from a Jenaya Brown corner-kick in the first half.

The fourth and final goal for the Texans came off a hustle play by freshman midfielder Avery Harr 15 minutes into the second half. The Aurora, Colorado, native blocked a would-be clearance by SFA (5-11-1, 4-6 WAC), dribbled from the left of the penalty area towards the penalty marker and rang the right post as the ball deflected into the net. Harr now has four goals on the season.

Rylee Low, the freshman defender from Midland, Texas, picked up her first assist of the season off a 40-yard free kick into the penalty area which led to the first Bettinelli goal. Low also booted the free kick that would lead to Harr’s goal in the second half although it was not determined as an assist.

Sophomore midfielder Jenaya Brown contributed two assists during the match. The Edmonton, Alberta, native placed a corner kick perfectly for teammate Rouillard to strike into the top netting in the 32nd minute of play. Brown’s next assist came off a slick turn around a Ladyjack defender leading to a flawless cross to fellow Texan Bettinelli who head the ball past the keeper.

Goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall recorded seven saves for the match. The Texans were efficient in their offensive attack, taking nine shots in total with seven of them on frame and four finding the back of the net. SFA shot 15 times with eight on goal and one making the scoreboard courtesy of freshman Ella Morgan.

Tarleton will play their last regular season game of their inaugural season on Saturday, Oct. 29 against UTRGV in Edinburg.
