EDINBURG – The Texans end their inaugural season with a bang as they shutout the Vaqueros at UTRGV Soccer Complex on Saturday night, scoring twice in the second half.

Tarleton (6-9-3, 2-7-2 WAC) recorded their first back-to-back WAC win of the season, continuing their proficient play on both sides of the pitch. Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall recorded four saves in the shutout of UTRGV (3-12-3, 1-7-3 WAC). The Orange, California, native earned her fifth clean sheet game of the season.

Midfielder Jenaya Brown recorded her second goal of the season with a booming kick into the top-right frame of the goal in the 74th minute of regulation. The sophomore from Edmonton, Alberta, was quick to react after a blocked shot from teammate Avery Harr came rolling toward her. She didn’t hesitate and drilled the ball into the back of the net.

The icing on the cake, however, belonged to freshman Avery Harr as she scored her fifth goal of the season on her own birthday. The midfielder from Aurora, Colorado, was in the right place at the right time as a cross from Macie Witter came bouncing through the goalie box. Harr directed the ball into the left side netting with her head in the 57th minute to get the Texans on the scoreboard. She also picked up an assist for the match after a blocked shot from her led immediately to a goal by fellow Texan Brown.

Tarleton’s lone graduating senior Kiki Baurmann completed her collegiate soccer career by picking up a combined assist with senior transfer Macie Witter. A throw in deep into Vaqueros’ territory from Witter to Baurmann led to the cross that awarded Harr with her goal. Baurmann and Witter lead the Texans in assists with a combined total of 10 on the season.

Defenders Sydney Rouillard and Kaitlyn Flanagan were a nearly impenetrable wall in tonight’s match. Flanagan recorded her first shot on goal for the season, proving to be efficient on both halves of the field.

This win wraps up the historic inaugural season for the Tarleton women’s soccer team. The Texans finish the season in ninth place in the WAC, just missing the conference tournament. Next up for head coach Pete Cuadrado and his staff are National Signing Day activities.
