Texans remain undefeated at home after routing of Wiley College

STEPHENVILLE – The Texans proved too much for Wiley College on Saturday at Wisdom Gymnasium. Tarleton picked up 49 points in each half against the Wildcats, securing the 98-55 victory.

Tarleton (5-3, 0-0 WAC) started the game with two separate 11-0 runs to jump out ahead of Wiley College (3-5, 0-0 GCAC) 22-3 over the first seven minutes of play. Over the duration of the first half, the Texans grew their lead to as much as 29 points and headed into the locker room at halftime up 49-23. Tarleton started the second half like the first with a 13-0 run over the first five minutes to jump ahead 62-23. The Texans spent the remainder of the second half growing their lead to as much as 47 points with two and a half minutes left in the game. Tarleton shot 33-of-61 (.541) from the field and forced a season-high 29 turnovers against the Wildcats.

The Texans’ Lue Williams led the team in scoring for the second game in a row, picking up 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Jakorie Smith, who was awarded Player of the Game, scored 15 points and grabbed a season-high five steals. Freddy Hicks scored his third 14 point game in a row, grabbed four boards and earned a team-high six assists. Shamir Bogues earned his second double-digit scoring performance of the season with 12 points, grabbed three rebounds and added five assists to his stat sheet. KiAndre Gaddy scored a season-high nine points, secured four rebounds and three blocks. Javontae Hopkins recorded eight points and four rebounds. Freshman Lajae Jones went perfect from the field shooting 2-of-2 on his way to five points, also picking up two blocks and steals. Shakur Daniel scored four points, grabbed three rebounds, earned three assists and two steals. Jalen Thomas tied his season-high scoring with four points. Garry Clark scored three points and two rebounds and assists. Tydan Archibald earned three points. Tiger Booker scored two points and grabbed two rebounds. Coreyoun Rushin picked up two points and earned three rebounds.

Tarleton will face their highest-ranked opponent of the season so far in #6 Baylor (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) on Tuesday, Dec 3, in Waco, Texas. Baylor has picked up a win against #8 UCLA while suffering losses to #16 Virginia and Marquette. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center and the game will be streamed on Big 12 NOW as well as ESPN+. Fans can listen on KTRL 90.5 FM radio.
