Thelma Maida Christian Lucas was born May 1, 1931 in Lingleville to Bun M. & Neomi Ray Haynes.
She lived most of her life in Erath and Hamilton County, and attended school at Clairette and graduated from Alexander High School.

On June 21, 1947, she married the love of her life, Bill Christian. They resided in Clairette on the Christian Farm for 28 years.

Maida, as everyone knew her, was a stay at home wife and mom of their three children, Belinda, Galen and Cindy. Maida was a hard worker and provided well for her family by cooking all their meals from scratch, and sewed a lot of their clothes.

In 1974, tragedy struck their family with the loss of Galen. Seven months later, tragedy struck again, with the loss of Belinda. Then one year later, Maida lost her husband Bill. Through all the tragedy of loss she and Cindy experienced, she remained steadfast in her love for God and displayed such grace.

Maida & Cindy moved from the family farm to Hico to be closer to family and friends to help them heal and recover from all the tragedy. Maida worked for Petsick Insurance Agency for 15 years. She was also a newspaper carrier, a babysitter, transit van driver, and librarian at Three Way School and Huckaby School for 10 years.

Maida fell in love with Dorsey Patterson, and they married, December 1981. They had a beautiful and fun seven years together before his passing in February 1988.Maida was a long time member of Hico First Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching preschool children in Sunday School, Training Union and VBS.
She loved God, her family, her church family and her many friends. She was also a member of the Clairette Busy Bee Club. Maida liked to stay busy and enjoyed doing needlework, sewing, making beautiful hand sewn quilts and cooking delicious food. Her favorite things to do were to travel, go camping, playing cards and dominoes, and fishing.Her most favorite thing to do was watch her grandsons play sports. They brought her so much joy! When Maida became a Grandmother, she earned the name “Grands” which she was so proud of and delighted in her three grandsons and seven great grandchildren.

Maida was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill and Dorsey, daughter, Belinda Joy Weatherford; son, Galen Boyd Christian; mother and stepfather, Neomi & Elzie Pate; father and stepmother, Bun & Mary Haynes.

Maida is survived by her daughter, Cindy Davis and husband Lonnie; Grandsons, Jamie Weatherford and wife Laura of Whitehouse; Kyle Davis and wife Katy of Hico, and Kaleb Davis and wife Brittany of Hamilton. Great granddaughters, Macy and Lyndy Weatherford of Whitehouse, Nora and Mae Davis of Hico and Alice Davis of Hamilton. Great grandsons, Jake Davis of Hico and Harvey Davis of Hamilton.
She was proud to be a Christian by her faith in God, and she was also proud to carry the Christian family name and enjoyed being a part of a very loving family with all of her brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

On December 6, 2022, God called her to her forever home, free of pain and suffering.

Service Information

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, at the First Baptist Church of Hico with burial to follow in the Clairette Cemetery.
