Barbara Jean Brown Bishop, 92, of Granbury, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Jean was born on September 10, 1930, in Lubbock, Texas to Henry H. and Isabelle Kelly Brown. She attended Texas Tech University. On April 29, 1951, Jean married James T. Bishop in Lubbock. She was an avid cross-stitcher, loved working crossword puzzles, and enjoyed planning meals for family and friends. Jean was a lifelong member of the Methodist church which spurred her to cross-stitch a humorous quote from a favorite Methodist minister, “I was Methodist born and Methodist bred, when I die, I’ll be Methodist dead.”
Jean lived in Amarillo for 29 years where she retired from the Amarillo ISD as a school secretary before moving to Stephenville where she lived for 37 years. The last 6 years she lived in Granbury. She loved her family and was extremely proud of her four granddaughters and one great-grandson. Her greatest passion in life was being a mother.
Jean is survived by her children, daughter Becky and husband Mike Cook of Amarillo, daughter Brenda Mabery of Granbury, son Terry Bishop and wife Chris of Dublin, and daughter Stacy Bishop of Granbury; granddaughters Emily Cook of Amarillo, Katie Cook of Amarillo, Molly Mabery and partner Kendall Sadler of North Richland Hills, and Sarah Adams and husband Heath of Granbury; great-grandson Bennett Adams; sister Birtie Stampley of Franklin, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, James, Jean was preceded in death by son-in-law, Bobby Mabery; great-granddaughter, Brystol Adams; sister Betty DeSpain; and brother Henry A. Brown.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association.
A private family graveside service will be held at Erath Gardens of Memory.
