March 26, 1936 ~ February 19, 2023 (age 86)

Charles A. “Tubba” Roberson took his last breath on earth and his first breath in heaven the evening of February 19, 2023. A lifelong resident of Stephenville, Texas he was the youngest son of thirteen children born to Charles W. Roberson and Vivian Powers Roberson on March 26, 1936. A graduate of Stephenville High School he went on to attend Tarleton College where he met his wife of 62 years, Peggie Jean Adkison. 

Tubba was an outstanding athlete at Stephenville High School lettering in several sports as well as playing the drums during halftime. He was selected to the National High School All-American All-Star football team and voted into the Stephenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He continued his football career at the collegiate level at Tarleton College as a member of the Plowboys football team where he received his master’s degree in education. For many years, he also taught and coached numerous sports for Stephenville ISD and had a love of golf for over 60 years. Even when he became legally blind in his later years, he continued to play golf with the assistance of his long-time friend and golf buddy, Norman Savage for many years.

Charles “Tubba” was proceeded in death by his wife, Peggie Roberson and son-in-law, Wayne Decker and survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Chuck Elliott, Cheryl Evans and Mike Fergason all of Stephenville and Sue Decker of Round Rock.  He was “Paw Paw” to grandchildren Chuck M. Elliott and wife Brandy, Makayla Elliott, Kelsey Evans Strickland and husband, Klay, Colton Decker, Kyle Evans and wife Candace, Sierra and Brooklynn Fergason as well as 6 great grandchildren Camdyn, Charley and Chesleigh Elliott, Ruger Dunkin, Kellan Strickland, Jace Hodges and Allie Jean Evans on the way.  He loved and was loved by his brother, sisters, family and special longtime high school friends, Ray Kelley, Jimmy Kelley, Richard Fagan and Dr. Lynn Banowsky.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Stephenville Funeral Home with a private family remembrance service planned.
