(March 26, 1935 – April 11, 2023)

Tommy Mack Carson “Junior” of Lamkin Texas passed away on April 11, 2023, returning home to his Savior.  Junior was born March 26, 1935, to Ethel (Thedford) and Tommy Mack Carson, Sr. In Carlton Texas.  He spent his early years learning to farm and work on the land.  Being the youngest of 14 is probably where he learned if you REALLY love someone then you pick at them and aggravate them.  He had a great love for his brothers and sisters who have all preceded him and he is, in every sense, the last of his kind!

He was a welder, a machinist, he ran the gas station in Hamilton, and a welding shop in Lamkin and returned to farming and ranching many years ago.  He worked hard all his life and loved as hard as he worked.

He married the love of his life, Verdie (Thompson), on December 24, 1985, and they spent the next 37 years completely in love and devoted to one another.

From the first inhale to the last exhale, he spent every breath in between on the people he loved.  Known to all his immediate family simply as “Papa,” whether you were his child, grandchild, or great-grandchild.  He leaves behind a multitude of grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren who were a wonderful bright spot to him and Verdie.  Despite their birth names Papa would promptly give them a pet names such as, “Butt,” “Little butt,” “Deer-hunter,” “Little Deer-hunter,” “Little Buck Deer-Hunter,” “Alligator,” “Monkey,” “Cowboy,” “Cowgirl,” and “Tiny, Tiny,” just to name a few.

Weather permitting you would find Papa outside tinkering with a lawn mower, working on a tractor, working the land in his garden, working cows, or relaxing at a favorite fishing hole.  He could also be found at the neighbor’s house tinkering with Ty’s stuff when he got tired of messing with his own!  He was always available with his big heart to help family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Verdie Carson, of Lamkin, Texas, sons, Bob (Debbie) Carson, of Indian Gap, Texas, Dan (Michelle) Carson, of Gustine, Texas, William (Tracie) Lowery, of Blytheville, Arkansas, TJ (Amber) Carson, of Gustine, Texas, his daughters, Kim (Travis) Meissner, of Hamilton, Texas, and Andrea (Josh) Bennett, of Comanche, Texas, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, from 6:00-8:00pm at Harrell Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00am at the Toliver Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas.
