Flash staff report
April 12, 2023
The Stephenville HS Honeybee soccer team (25-0-1) has rolled through the 2023 season. With zero losses and a single tie in the preseason, the Bees have continued their success through the postseason, allowing only 2 points while scoring 22 points on six opposing teams.
On April 8, the Bees faced District 5, 4A foe Salado (27-5), who they played twice in district. The only losses the Lady Eagles had in district play were the two against Stephenville, who remained undefeated.
And on Saturday, the Lady Eagles were a tough battle for the Bees, who defeated them, 2-1, in overtime to clench the Region 1 Final Championship.
That win sent the Bees, who are ranked No. 2 in State 4A girls’ soccer by the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association, to the UIL State 4A tournament in Georgetown.
The girls and coaching staff left town on Tuesday to full fanfare at every SISD campus as well as the Stephenville square, which was lined with fans.
On Wednesday, April 12, the Bees faced the No. 9 Lumberton Lady Raiders (21-3-1) for the state semifinal title. While the first half seemed close, Stephenville pulled away in the second and won, 4-0.
The State Final Game will be played at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in Georgetown against the No. 1 Celina Lady Bobcats (28-0).
