Texans sign Brazilian post Vitória Carvalho from South Plains College

STEPHENVILLE – The Texans have had a wide variety of international players in recent memory, and that continued on Tuesday as Tarleton Women’s Basketball announced the signing of Brazilian post Vitória Carvalho.

Carvalho (6-3) played the last two seasons at South Plains College. Last year she averaged 6.8 points on 50.0 percent shooting, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game in 30 games (11 starts). That’s 19.8 points, 17.4 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per 40 minutes.

Altogether in her two years with the Lady Texans, Carvalho played in 57 games (18 starts), averaging 5.7 points on 46.2 percent shooting, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Each season she led her team in blocks per game and was top-three in rebounding.

On Jan. 16 last season, Carvalho had a career-day in her team’s 83-58 win over Frank Phillips college, going for a career-high 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with a tied-career-high 13 rebounds. She scored 10+ points eight times last year and 11 times in her JUCO career, plus three career double-doubles.

The Lady Texans went a combined 42-19 with Carvalho, advancing as far as the Elite Eight of the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship her freshman year.

Carvalho is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she attended Colégio ADN Master and played four years of varsity basketball.

Carvalho plans to study nutrition upon arrival at Tarleton.

She is the fifth announced signing by head coach Bill Brock, joining post player Faith Acker from Winnsboro High School, guard Miannah Little from McLennan CC, stretch-four Andjela Bigovic from Cochise College and forward Lexi Bull from Wyoming.
