At 1:58 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, students and faculty at Stephenville High School were evacuated due to a bomb threat. Stephenville Police Department, Stephenville Fire Department and EMS, as well as Erath County Sheriff’s Office were all on scene to aid in securing the building and closing down the roads around campus.

According to school officials, as per school evacuation plans for this situation, the fire alarm was activated, everyone was evacuated to a secure area so that law enforcement could clear the building and assess the situation. Students were moved outside and guardians were notified.

School officials at Gilbert Intermediate were also put on notice. However, school officials on both campuses were not allowing parents to pick students up, upsetting some of those parents.

As of 3:15 p.m. officers had cleared the main building and were searching bags and bringing students and faculty back inside before continuing to search other buildings on campus as a precaution.

Stephenville ISD emailed parents with students at the high school and Stephenville PD officials sent out an emergency text to residents signed up with Nixel. Police officials said they will release more information at a later time.
