STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State Football is hosting the best crowds Memorial Stadium has ever seen, putting them in the top-five nationally in attendance.

“That crowd on Saturday was unbelievable, a record 22,251 fans attended the Texan Football game on Family Weekend,” Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Lonn Reisman said. “What an incredible start to the season all-around. from the 3-1 start on the field to what we’ve seen off of it — the fan support has been the best I’ve seen in my 35 years here. Our two home football games have had our best crowds ever, and we had the Legend of the Texan Rider return for Family Weekend, another special moment.

“Texan Nation, you all are amazing,” Reisman added. “Thank you for your support, and let’s keep it up to truly make this season one-of-a-kind!”

In each of the first two games, Tarleton State has seen 20,000-plus walk through the turnstiles, including an all-time record 22,251 fans attend Saturday’s Family Weekend game between Tarleton State and Southwest Baptist.

Since boosting the capacity at Memorial Stadium to 24,000 ahead of last season’s homecoming game, Tarleton State has hosted crowds of 20,000 or more three times already.

Nationally, Tarleton State ranks fourth across 128 FCS programs in total attendance this season. At 42,378, the Texans only trail Montana (52,408), Southern University (44,954) and Montana State (43,454). They’re ahead of the fifth ranked program by a considerable margin, Alabama State at 39,591.

Conference-wide, the Texans are far and away the most attended program. At 42,378 fans through two games, Tarleton has drawn over 15,000 more than the next closest United Athletic Conference team, Eastern Kentucky at 27,074. The rest of the top-five is North Alabama (18,197), Stephen F. Austin (17,676) and Central Arkansas (17,416).

The Texans will be on the road at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday before returning home for their Legends Game on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. against Southern Utah.
