Gregory Lynn Derrick went peacefully surrounded by his family on September 30, 2023 after struggling with his health for several years. Greg spent 13 years in the restaurant business, at El Chico and Zapata’s, and then 27 years as delivery carrier at FedEx Express before retiring with his family in Flower Mound, TX.

Greg was born on February 22, 1958, in Abilene, Texas to Joe Derrick Jr. and Lois (Kilcrease) Derrick. He was a graduate of Abilene High School in 1976 and raised his family with his wife Cloyce (Forkner) Derrick in Abilene.

In 1977, he married Cloyce and raised three children, Nathan, Leah, and Alyssa. He enjoyed supporting them at every sporting event and adventures they had. Greg was an avid Cowboys fan, but also enjoyed watching soccer, baseball, and volleyball.

Greg, or Poppi as he was known to his four grandchildren, Isabelle, Carter, Sadie, and Lucas, showed his affection by purchasing thoughtful gifts for them, taking them to the park, and fishing with his grandkids. He was also an animal lover, and he spoiled his grand-dogs too. He always brought a new toy or treat to them and knew just the right spot to scratch.

Greg loved music, especially 70s rock bands. He was a member of the Abilene High School’s Marching Band where he played the trombone. Greg also enjoyed driving and would like to take a “Sunday drive” around the greater Taylor and Erath County area.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Joe Derrick Jr. and Lois (Kilcrease) Derrick.

He is survived by his wife Cloyce, and son, Nathan Derrick and wife Andrea of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Leah McBain and husband Scott of Flower Mound, TX, daughter, Alyssa Derrick and partner Wade of Nashville, TN, and then brother Mike Derrick and wife, Janeen and their five children of Clyde, TX.  Along with his cousins, brother and sister-in-law’s, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services for Greg will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 6, 2023 at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at West End Cemetery.  Visitation with the Derrick family will begin at 1:00 PM (one hour prior to services).
