Texans roll Trailblazers in final exhibition before season opener

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Women’s Basketball returned to the court for their last exhibition game, hosting UNT Dallas Monday night at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville.

Tarleton won the game 94-53, by outshooting UNT Dallas 53.4 percent to 32.7 percent and by outrebounding the Trailblazers 43-23.

A total of four Texans entered double figures. Teresa Da Silva secured 19 points, going 5-of-7 from the paint, 3-of-4 from the three-point line, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Faith Acker collected 18 points, 6-of-12 from the paint, 6-of-8 from the free throw line, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tyler Jackson put up 16 points, going 6-of-7 from field goal range, and snagging six rebounds. Andjela Bigovic tallied 11 points going 5-of-8 from the floor.

Texans won the first quarter 23-3 shooting 10-of-14 from the field. Three players shot 100 percent, Da Silva, Jackson, Elise Turrubiates, and Dyamon Griggs. The Texans strong defense led to a total of 14 points off of turnovers.

In the second quarter, the Texans still reigned leaders by taking the quarter 18-11. In the first four minutes of play, the Texans went on a 10-0 run before the Trailblazers had a chance to score.

Coming back from halftime, Acker scored 13 points in the quarter, as the true freshman achieved a double-double. Jackson dropped six points in the quarter.

The Texans dropped 28 points in the final frame to run away with it. Overall, they scored 36 points off of 22 Trailblazer turnovers.

The Texans will return back at Wisdom Gym Nov. 6 to take on Howard Payne for the season opener in the New Era.
