The Stephenville Yellow Jacket football team is one win away from first place in district play.

Currently, the Jackets (7-2, 3-0) sit atop District 5, 4A undefeated but tied for first place with China Spring (7-3, 3-1), who lost to Stephenville two weeks ago and has a bye week. They are facing the La Vega Pirates (6-3, 2-1) Friday night and a win will guarantee an outright title.

District 5 is stacked this year. Stephenville is ranked No. 6 in Texas 4A, D1 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. Brownwood is No. 7, China Spring is ranked No. 9 and La Vega is No. 10 for Week 11.

Stephenville, who already has a spot in the 2023 playoffs, is looking to complete a perfect round against district foes this season on Friday night at Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the gate.
