Tarleton State Agriculture Dean Accepted into APLU Leadership Institute

Tarleton State’s Dr. Barry Lambert

STEPHENVILLE — Dr. Barry Lambert, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Tarleton State University, is participating in the fall 2023 Food Systems Leadership Institute (FSLI), two-year executive leadership development program for higher education, industry and government.

The FSLI is an outreach of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). North Carolina State University is the host site, with Ohio State University and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo serving as residential sites for program implementation. 

Participants work with expert instructors, leadership development coaches and upper-level mentors to increase their leadership abilities. Leadership theory combines with practical experience, often in the context of food systems and higher education.

“I am honored to be part of this long-standing program that focuses on preparing leaders to address the grand challenges that face society, many of which are centered on agriculture and natural resources, including food, water and energy production,” Dr. Lambert said.

The FSLI includes three week-long residential sessions at different university locations. During the first year, scholars do assessments to learn about their leadership styles, and a coach helps them develop and implement a personal development plan. Interactive distance learning happens between residential sessions.
