STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University and the City of Stephenville, Texas.
Today, President James Hurley and Mayor Doug Svien jointly announced the establishment of the Tarleton/Stephenville Town and Gown Alliance aimed at continuing a strong partnership and communication between the university and the city.
The formation of the alliance is driven by the recognition that there is mutual benefit to a collaborative approach that addresses challenges, leverages resources, and achieves common goals for the university and the community.
“Tarleton State and the City of Stephenville have always had a great relationship. This alliance codifies it to create a long-standing collaboration for years to come,” said Tarleton President Hurley. “I’m thankful to Mayor Doug Svien, the Stephenville City Council, and the members of this community who have made this possible. We are fortunate to live and serve in a community that embraces growth and opportunity. Tarleton has been on the rise for a long time, and I’m thankful to have the support of our city.”
The alliance was signed into effect and adopted on Wednesday, December 13 at the Stephenville City Hall.
The partnership agreement outlines executive and functional teams with representatives from the university, city, and community who will focus their collaboration on enhancing quality of life, safety and security, community engagement, economic development, and education and research.
“I am thrilled to have this agreement in place. The City of Stephenville and the University have a rich history of success, and I know that with this partnership in place, the best is yet to come,” said Mayor Svien. “Dr. Hurley and his team from Tarleton State have been exceptional partners establishing this alliance, and I want to thank them for their efforts. The university is an integral part of what makes Stephenville a special place to call home.”
An indefinite agreement, the alliance will be subject to periodic reviews to improve effectiveness, activities, and alignment.
