Charles Grady Golightly, 91, departed this life peacefully at home surrounded by family members on February 12, 2024. Charles was born May 18, 1932, in Erath County, to his parents John and Iva Golightly. He was preceded in death by Cynthia, his wife of 70 years, and grandson, Austin. He is survived by 5 sons: Charles Jr, John, George, James and Steven Golightly; by 16 Grandchildren and 17 Great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Hico High School and Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech). At the 1950 Hico Reunion, Charles met Cynthia, and a ferris wheel ride led to marriage in 1951. After living in Lubbock, Oklahoma and returning to Hico in 1956. In 1964 he moved to Tyler, Texas and pursued a career with Central Ohio Breeding Association, retiring as General Manager for Texas and the Southwest in 1996. In 1976, Charles made a life-changing commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous, remaining active until the very final few weeks of his life. On retirement, Charles and Cynthia returned to Hico to continue operations of the Golightly family farm for the next 28 years. In addition to farming, he found himself fully engaged in “grandparenting”, active in the First United Methodist Church of Hico and the Hico Senior Activity Center.

A service of celebration of his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Hico at 10 AM on Saturday, February 17. Interment at Clairette Cemetery to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the First United Methodist Church of Hico or the Hico Senior Activity Center.
