Saddle Bronc Riders Lead Tarleton State Men to 3rd in Sweetwater

STEPHENVILLE — Four saddle bronc riders paced the Tarleton State University men’s rodeo team to a third-place finish at the Ranger College National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association event in Sweetwater this past weekend.

Lance Gaillard posted identical 78s for a 156 total and second place, Ira Dickinson’s 149.5 on two rides was good for fifth, Bailey Smalls’ 72-75.5–147.5 was seventh, and Travis Handley took eighth with his 76-70–146.

Among other Tarleton State standouts, Clay Guthrie finished fourth in steer wrestling with a 9.5 total on runs of 4.1 and 5.4, just .3 ahead of teammate Landris White, who flashed two 4.9s for fifth place.

Mason Spain’s two-ride 143 earned the Tarleton State bull rider third place in the average. Roedy Farell earned a sixth-place 152 in bareback riding, including an 83, second in the long round, and Grant Lindsley took seventh in tie-down roping with a preliminary round 9.9 coupled with an 11.0 in the short go for a 20.9 in the average.

Tarleton State’s women took sixth in Sweetwater led by three top-five performances in goat tying. A 6.7-6.6–13.3 from Keni Labrum was second, Danielle Bussey was fourth with a 14.6 on runs of 7.2 and 7.4, and Shyanne Bauerle took fifth with a two-head 15.5.

Jordan Driver posted twin 2.1 times for a second-place 4.2 in breakaway roping, trailed by teammate Rylee Able’s sixth-place 2.1-3.7–5.8.

Barrel racers Lindsey-Kay Reichert and Danielle Bussey took fourth and fifth in the event. Reichert ran the cloverleaf in 14.98 seconds in the long go, then added a 14.83 in the finals for 29.81. Bussey’s 29.98 total featured a 14.93 in the first round and a short-go 15.05. Additionally, Emery Mask took third in the long go with her 14.88.

Both teams lead the regional team standings and will return to action April 4-6 in the Western Texas College Rodeo in Snyder.
