Barbara Carol Marlatt Mall was born on August 25, 1932, in Los Angeles, California, to Walter Marlatt and Dorothy Madorie Marlatt. She passed away on April 19, 2024, in Hico, Texas.
Barbara graduated from UCLA with her teaching degree and from Azusa Pacific with her Masters of Education. She taught 40 years, 35 of them in 2nd grade. Teaching was her calling and she loved her students and their families.
In her lifetime, Barbara lived in California, Hawaii and Texas, but Hawaii had her heart. She and her husband Howard, moved to Hawaii to raise their family. Barbara embodied the Aloha Spirit. She loved to travel and went to the Holy Land, toured Europe by Eurail, toured the USA by RV twice and made many trips to Hawaii and National Parks. She was always planning her next great adventure. But, by far, she was most passionate about her family and her God. She loved spending time with her grandkids and taking everyone on family vacations. She loved the beaches and mountains and loved painting them. Barbara was also very involved in her church, serving wherever she was needed. She had awards and many accomplishments in life, but the one she was most proud of was her perfect attendance award in Sunday School, and perfect attendance from kindergarten to graduation. If they were on vacation, they would find a church to attend. Barbara lived her faith, loved her God and knew, without a doubt, where she would be when she passed. She would not want this one last opportunity to pass without the chance to share and encourage others to follow and really experience the life-changing, unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Schouten and husband, Bob; daughter-in-law, Trina Mall, and brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Carol Mall. Grandchildren: Shane Schouten, Lindsey Schouten, Brittany Simpson and husband, Josh, Kody Schouten and wife, Sammi, Makayla Mall, and Tyler Mall.
Great grandchildren: Luke, Ethan and Hannah Simpson and Donovan and Beau Schouten. Barbara was very close to her nieces and nephews, Lynne Chambliss, Roger and Ana Roesch, Duane and Kristi Roesch, Linda and Michel Fitzgerald, Kevin Mall, Rob and Rhonda Mall and their families.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and by, son, Craig Mall, Walter and Dorothy Marlatt, and sister and husband Pat and Chuck Roesch.
Graveside services were held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the Black Family Cemetery, Hico, Texas.
