Tarleton State University goat tyer Rayme Jones finished with a 6.1 to win the event’s second go-round Tuesday at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo.
Jones’ effort helped push the Tarleton State women’s team into second place at the end of two rounds of competition.
In Tuesday’s slack, barrel racers Hadley Tidwell and Jordan Driver posted twin 14.15s for fourth place on the day and goat tyer Tori Brower added a 7.9.
Saddle bronc rider Ira Dickinson scored a 76.5, bull rider Mason Spain earned a 72.5 and steer wrestler Landris White was eighth with his 6.6 tally to lift Tarleton State’s men into third position heading into Tuesday night’s opening of the third go.
To end the day, the first runs of the CNFR’s third round were highlighted by two rodeo-best performances from Tarleton State athletes as Dickinson’s 84.5 and a 13.84 from Driver gave them early event leads in the final push toward Saturday’s championship finals. Dickinson’s score tied a CNFR record.
Brower was second on the night with her 7.1.
Wednesday’s evening performance of the CNFR will feature Tarleton State bareback rider Roedy Farrell and Jones’ third run in goat tying.
All performances of the CNFR, which runs through Saturday, will air on ESPN3, available on the ESPN app or on ESPN.com. Performances will stream live and replay the following day.
