STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Women’s Soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado announced his slate for the upcoming 2024 season on Monday afternoon.

The Texans will face a 19-game regular season schedule featuring 12 non-conference matchups and seven WAC contests. Out of the 12 non-WAC schools on the 2024 slate, the Texans faced six of them just a season ago. The non-conference opponents include UTRGV, who will be playing out of the Southland when the season commences. The 2024 campaign features a pair of 2023 NCAA Tournament teams and the first Power Five opponent to travel to Stephenville. The schedule is fairly balanced featuring nine games in Stephenville and 10 regular season matches on the road.

“We are very excited to get started this fall,” said head coach Pete Cuadrado. “We are looking forward to the challenge that the schedule presents to our team as we continue to build this program. This is our third year with the first recruiting class we brought in who are now juniors with two years of experience under their belts. Our team will have many new faces as well as those from the past two seasons and we are excited to see this team grow together throughout the season.”

Tarleton will open the season with a road exhibition at McNeese State on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The exhibition game will mark the first meeting between the Texans and the Cowgirls. Coach Cuadrado’s squad will open the regular season with a pair of road games in southern Texas. The Texans will kick off the season in San Antonio on Thursday, August 15, against Incarnate Word, another new opponent for the squad. The Texans will stay on the road to open the season and travel to Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Sunday, Aug. 18. The Islanders have become a staple in the Texan schedule marking the third total meeting between the two schools in the three years of the Texan program existence.

The Purple and White will welcome soccer back to Stephenville during move-in week for students with three straight home games. The Texans’ home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 against UTRGV, marking the first non-conference game between the two schools in any sport. The Vaqueros will be competing in the Southland in 2024. Later in the week, the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils will come to the ‘ville, for a 7 p.m. kick on Thursday night, Aug. 22. For the first time at the Tarleton Soccer Complex, a Power Five opponent will play the Texans in a regular season match. Following last year’s match in Houston, the Houston Cougars will take on the Texans for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The Texans will close out the month of August with a pair of in-state familiar foes. On Friday, Aug. 30, the Texans will travel to Prairie View A&M to take on the Panthers for the second-straight season. The Texans will stay on the road and complete the weekend with a Sunday night game at Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. Tarleton earned a pair of wins last season against the Panthers and the Lions in Stephenville.

In September, the Texans will host Oral Roberts on Sept. 5 before hitting the road for three straight games. The Texans will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with Grambling State (Sept. 8), Northwestern State (Sept. 12) and Houston Christian (Sept. 15). Grambling State is one of two Texan opponents this season that reached the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers won the SWAC after an 8-0-1 record in the regular season and three victories in the conference tournament. Grambling dropped 5-0, to second-seeded Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The final two matchups against the Demons and the Huskies will mark the first meetings between the two programs. Tarleton will end their non-conference slate with a Thursday morning home game against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 19. The Texans will meet the Lions for the first time in program history.

Due to UTRGV and Stephen F. Austin leaving the Western Athletic Conference, the Texans conference schedule shortens for the third consecutive season, this time to seven games. The Texans first four WAC contests come against the top four teams in the league just a season ago. Tarleton will start the gauntlet at home against Utah Valley on Saturday Sept. 28 at noon before heading on the road for three straight games.

The Texans will open October on a three game road trip against California Baptist (Oct. 3), Grand Canyon (Oct. 6) and Seattle U (Oct. 12). Grand Canyon earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the WAC Championship as the fourth seed. The Lopes dropped a 1-0 decision to eighth-seeded USC, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Seattle U earned a trip to the WAC title game where they fell to the Lopes, 4-2.

Tarleton returns home for three-straight games at the Tarleton Soccer Complex to close the regular season. The Texans will play the final two Utah programs starting with Utah Tech on Thursday, Oct. 17. Southern Utah will be the final non-Texas opponent of the regular season, scheduled for a Sunday matinee kickoff at 1 p.m. I-20 rival, Abilene Christian will conclude the regular season portion of the Purple and White’s schedule almost a week later on Saturday night, Oct. 26. The Texans tied the Wildcats 1-1 in their first and only meeting in Stephenville in 2022.

The 2024 WAC Tournament will be in Abilene, Texas, hosted by Abilene Christian. With the league sitting at eight teams, six will earn a bid to the postseason tournament. The quarterfinals will open on Sunday Nov. 3. The semifinals are set for Nov. 6 with the championship match slated for Friday, Nov. 8.
