William Leonard Emmett, known affectionately as Bill, passed away on July 4, 2024, in Stephenville, Texas at the age of 81. Born in Bloomington, Illinois, Bill dedicated 28 years of his life to the Bloomington Police Department ascending to the position of Chief of Detectives before his retirement. Bill’s life was marked not only by his commitment to law enforcement but also by the hobbies he shared with his late wife Doris June Emmett. Bill and Doris shared 37 beautiful years together along with restoring street rods, raising paint horses, and being involved in the Kickapoo Pow Wows before Doris’s passing in 2000. After Doris’s passing, Bill along with his daughters, son in law, and grandchildren moved to their family ranch affectionately called by Bill “our family compound.” Bill enjoyed running around the family ranch on his gator and raising Maine Coone cats with his family. He particularly cherished his moments with his best friend and companion, his Maine Coone cat, Loki. Bill is survived by his daughters Angie (Alan) Stone, Peggy Emmett (Lee), grandchildren Caleb (Cheyenne)Stone, Travis (Kat) Stone, Jayden Stone, great grandchildren Ryker, Remi K, and Ryann Stone, sister Sahndra Marshall, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris, parents William & Mickey Emmett, sister and brother-in-law Dixie (Paul) Thomas, and brother and sister-in-law Melvin (Janet) Emmett. A private family gathering will be held at a later. Cremation rites have been accorded.
