STEPHENVILLE — A widespread technology outage swept across not only Texas, but the world this morning as a software update from the cyber security firm CrowdStrike caused PCs to be stuck on the blue ‘recovery screen’. The issues were first reported in Australia, followed by the US and UK among others.

The outage affected banks like ChaseBank, Wells Fargo and many other payment systems, airports like DFW International Airport, airlines like Delta and American and even the Texas DPS system is down currently.

CrowdStrike’s chief executive, George Kurtz, confirmed in a post on X that a “defect” in a content update for Windows hosts had caused the outage. He added that the firm was rolling out a fix and that Mac and Linux hosts were not affected.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted,” Kurtz noted on X.

“This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers,” said Kurtz.

It appears as though the company is slowly getting things back online and running properly, but for now, the DPS offices across the state are closed, there is a massive backup at DFW and The Flash has gotten more than one report of area businesses not being able to take card payments.
