The Stephenville Honeybee volleyball team (13-10) came out victorious in their matchup against the Abilene High Lady Eagles (7-19) on Tuesday, September 10, in three straight sets.
Abilene received the first serve, but it was quickly changed by Stephenville’s #12 Keirstyn Carlton, securing the first point with a kill. This start gave them the confidence and momentum to win set 1, 25-12. Set 2 was a battle for the Honeybees, but they were able to come together and secure the win, 25-22. Stephenville regained momentum and finished the game in set 3 with a score of 25-15.
The Honeybees had a great win tonight allowing each player to showcase their skills. Kyla Ray, #14, served the team well, passing and defending the ball. Setter, #7 Stevie-Kate LaDuque, moved the ball well along the net, setting her teammates up for amazing plays. Carlton was a key player in this match for the Honeybees, not only in kills and her front row defense but also from the back row and the serving line.
“I thought we played a good set 1 and set 3; in set 2 we changed the lineup just to see some things. I feel like we are still trying to find our identity,” Coach Shay Douglas said. “We recently got some injured kids back, so we are trying to get back into the rhythm of our game. Ultimately, I thought we swung well and we’re just going to continue to improve.”
