STEPHENVILLE – With the addition of Tarleton State’s new event center, set to open in Fall 2025, both Texan basketball programs will be calling that their new home next season. Starting this year, Texan Volleyball will transition its home over from the Wisdom Volleyball Gym to Wisdom Gym, which will become its permanent home in 2025.

Texan Volleyball will play all home matches in Wisdom Gym this season. Tarleton State has installed temporary volleyball court lines and made other accommodations to host all three teams’ matches and games in 2024-25. At the conclusion of the basketball season, Tarleton will permanently shift Wisdom Gym into a volleyball specific court.

“The continued investment by our administration keeps elevating all of Tarleton Athletics’ programs, and it’s time for Texan Volleyball to receive an immediate facelift in facilities,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Steve Uryasz said. “Moving into Wisdom Gym now will give the volleyball student-athletes an enhanced experience, and will help with recruiting as the Texans move into a new venue.”

Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. The volleyball gym was added to Wisdom Gym in 1977 as a part of a $1.7 million expansion project. The current volleyball gym holds a capacity of 750 people, while the basketball gym can host 3,000.

Texan Volleyball will play its home opener on Thursday, Sept. 19, against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. There will be free mini volleyballs available for fans to celebrate the opening night. Tickets for the match can be purchased for $10.

Wisdom Gym will hold the Tarleton State Invitational over the next two days, hosting six matches overall, three featuring the Texans. Tarleton will face Alcorn State on Friday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. on Education Day, with hundreds of elementary students in attendance. That night, the Texans will host Greek Life Night against Houston Christian at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 21, Tarleton will end the tournament against Louisiana Monroe at 6 p.m., and the entire Texan volleyball team will sign autographs postgame.

Tarleton State Invitational passes are $30. Passes grant fans access to all six matches across the two days. Fans can purchase at www.tarletonsports.com/tickets, or by calling the Tarleton Athletics Ticket Office at (254) 968-1832.
