STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Football pulled out an overtime win at a tough conference opponent on Saturday, and the Texans rose in both of the prominent FCS national polls on Monday because of it.
The Texans rose three spots to No. 11 in the AFCA Coaches Poll with 383 points, surpassing Central Arkansas, Montana and William and Mary, who all lost this past Saturday. In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans moved up one spot to No. 13 with 717 points, jumping ahead of Montana and William and Mary, with Abilene Christian moving ahead of Tarleton from No. 16 to No. 10 after beating UCA.
These are the highest rankings Tarleton has been slotted in their NCAA Division I era.
The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th. A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
The Texans are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Their 5-1 record through six games is their best start to a year since beginning 2019 11-0. The Texans have won nine of their last 10 games, dating back to last season.
