Helen “Ernestine” Thomas, 91, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in Hico, TX. The only child of Ernest “Erni” Sudron and Helen Mantonye. Ernestine grew up in Albuquerque where she graduated from Albuquerque High School. Ernestine married the love of her life, Merrill “Tommy” Thomas and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage together filled with family and many friends.
Shortly after high school, Ernestine began working for Albuquerque National Bank. After that, she would go on to work for the family automotive business and then several years in real estate selling homes to NM residents which she then retired from.
Ernestine was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Epsilon Master Chapter, she loved to be involved with this group and truly lived by their motto “Life, Learning and Friendship”. She was also a long-time member of the Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque where she was a very active member and volunteered in the thrift store.
Ernestine loved to travel. She and Tommy took many domestic and international cruises. She was a wonderful card player. She loved Skip Bo and Hand and Foot along with Dominos.
In 2015 she and Tommy moved to Hico, TX. Tommy passed away shortly after the move. During that difficult time, her family and caring friends helped her live a great life TX.
Ernestine is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest “Erni” Suderon and Helen Mantonye, and her husband, Merrill “Tommy” Thomas. She is survived by her children William “Bill” Thomas, Kenneth “Ken” Thomas and wife, Karen and her only grandchild Taggert “Tag” Thomas and wife Avery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation to Shriners Hospital for Children % Ballut Abyad Shrine, 6600 Zuni SE, Albuquerque, NM, 87108.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Fellowship Pleasant Hill Church in Hico.
Arrangements are handled by Harvest Hills Funeral Home Hico.
