STEPHENVILLE – The prominent FCS national polls were announced on Monday, placing both Tarleton State and Abilene Christian in the top-15, setting up a classic this upcoming Saturday for at least a share of the conference championship.
In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans (735 points) were slotted No. 13, and Abilene Christian (684 points) ranked No. 14. A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote. Both Tarleton and ACU moved up a spot week-over-week after the Texans’ win at Wet Georgia and the Wildcats’ win at Austin Peay.
In the AFCA Coaches Poll, the Texans (342 points) were ranked No. 12, and Abilene Christian (283 points) was slotted No. 15. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th. Tarleton moved up two spots in this poll, while ACU moved up one.
The Texans and Wildcats will meet in Stephenville on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium for an all-time battle. The winner of Saturday’s contest will lock up at least a share of the United Athletic Conference championship. ACU is currently 6-1 in UAC play, and Tarleton is 5-1. If Tarleton wins, the Texans will clinch at least a share, and could clinch the automatic playoff bid if Eastern Kentucky loses at Austin Peay earlier in the day. If ACU wins, the Wildcats will win an outright championship, regardless of other results.
