STEPHENVILLE – Heading into the regular season finale, Tarleton State Football earned the No. 16 spot in the national polls, it was announced on Monday.
The FCS Playoffs bracket will be announced on Sunday, with 24 teams making the postseason, 10 conference champions and 14 at-large bids.
In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans (585 points) dropped by three spots after their last-minute loss against previously No. 14 Abilene Christian. Tarleton was surpassed by three teams; No. 11 ACU, No. 13 Rhode Island and No. 14 Illinois State. A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
In the AFCA Coaches Poll, the Texans (244 points) were also ranked No. 16, falling four spots from last week’s No. 12 spot. They were surpassed by No. 11 Southeast Missouri State, No. 12 ACU, No. 13 Illinois State and No. 15 Rhode Island. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
The Texans will host Central Arkansas on Saturday at Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m. The Bears had been ranked as high as No. 5 in the country earlier this season, and received votes in both polls on Monday but are now unranked. The Texans are second in the United Athletic Conference at 5-2, with Central Arkansas fifth at 3-4. Tarleton is 8-3 overall, while UCA is 6-5.
Saturday’s game will be Senior Day for Tarleton State, who will recognize 26 student-athletes who have made a tremendous impact on the program. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
