Rashwan, Cameron shatter school records twice each at Corky Classic

LUBBOCK – Three different program records were broken a total of five times across the two days the Tarleton State Track and Field team competed at the Corky Classic at the Texas Tech Sports and Performance Center.

In their second weekend of the season, the Texans were busy rewriting the record books. In total three different school records were broken, five times.

“It was a great weekend for our Texans,” said head coach Bobby Carter. “This was probably the best meet in the country this weekend, based on the performances. As I have told my team, we will compete amongst the best, including ourselves. It was also really great seeing more school records broken and many top 10 performances. It’s always a good sign, when you have so much to cover. We are excited to get back and continue to keep working! As I always tell my team, regardless of how you do , we will always get back to work and figure out how to get better.”

Freshmen Victoria Cameron and Malak Rashwan each broke the school record in the preliminary round, and then one again in the semifinals. Rashwan also set a new Egyptian national record in the 60-meter hurdles, along with breaking her own school record that she set last time out, twice.

Aidan Matthews broke the school record in the 200 meters in his 2025 debut. 

Along with three school records, the Texans also had nine performances set new program top 10 records.

Day 1

The first day of the invite saw two school records, broken twice by the same athlete within hours of each other.

Rashwan broke her 60-meter hurdle school record twice on the first day. First, she rebroke her record running an 8.68 in the preliminary round. She was among the 24 runners to qualify for the next round beating her record by 0.03 seconds. In the semifinals, she broke her own school record for the second time by .06 seconds crossing in 8.52 seconds. Her run in the semis, also set the Egyptian national record. Rashwan, a Cairo, Egypt, native, has also competed at the national stage for the country of Egypt. Even though she ran the time on US soil, Egypt recognizes it as the new national record.

Cameron also broke the school record twice on day one. In the 60-meter dash prelims she shattered the previous record of 7.45, clocking in at 7.27. Just a few hours later in the semis, she broke her own record with a 7.19 performance to qualify second for the finals. However, she was one of three athletes to qualify for the finals that chose not to run three races within three hours so early in the year.

Sage Lancaster posted the seventh best time in the 800 in program history. In the single heat finals, Lancaster crossing in 2:23.54. to earn 22nd place.

Amandine Estival, Lauren Roy and Hanna Dudley each ran 7.54 in the 60-meter dash preliminary round. Estival matched her personal best that now ranks fourth in program history and Roy tied it as well. Dudley previously held the fastest time with a 7.45 performance last season.

Sofia DeGroot set a new personal best in the long jump with a best leap of 5.83 meters. Her mark bests her old record of 5.78 meters and reamins third all-time in program history.

Tayler Wessely turned in a third-place performance in the women’s B weight throw. Her best toss of 16.23 on her fifth throw. She broke the program record in her first meet as a Texan in Kansas a month ago with a best toss of 16.98.

Lokesh Sathyanathan posted the third best long jump in program history. His best jump of 7.40 meters finished fourth in the event. He was just .25 meters behind teammate Sir Jonathan Sims new school record set last time out in Kansas.

Omir Ibrahim recorded the ninth best time in school history with a 1:57.72 in the 800.


Day 2

Aidan Matthews was the lone record breaker on the second day of competition. Matthews competed in the 200 in the middle of day two against many Power Four conference competitors. Matthews crossed in 21.21 seconds, surpassing David Mvundura’s former record of 21.28 seconds.

In the triple jump, a pair of Texans place in the top five. Gabriele Tosti notched second with a best leap of 15.98 meters, just short of his program record of 16.03 meters. Sir Jonathan Sims turned in a fifth-place performance registering the second furthest jump in program history of 15.69 meters.

Rashwan ended her weekend in the 600-yard dash. She crossed in 1:33.43, the seventh best time in program history.

Taylor McFarland recorded the eighth-best time in program history in her indoor debut in the 200. McFarland crossed in 25.06 seconds.

Aislee Bynum cleared the 1.97-meter mark, to tie for the eighth-best height in the high jump in program history with four other athletes.

Both relays ended the invite for the Texans. On the women’s side the 4×400 squad of Nyla Barlow, McFarland, Dudley and Estival turned in the third best time in program history in 3:49.39. The men’s 4×400 relay

Tarleton State will have a weekend off before returning to Texas Tech the final weekend in January. The Texans will compete in the Stan Scott Invite & Multis at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center starting on Jan. 30.
