Valerie Jean Drew, 70, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2025 in the comfort of her home in Stephenville, Texas. A memorial service for Valerie will be held at 10:00am, February 22, 2025, at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a lunch reception to follow at the Kerr home. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Valerie was born in Rome, New York on December 23, 1954, to her parents Roy H Wood and Charlotte J (Christy) Wood. However, she was quick to say “I got to Texas as fast as I could”.

Valerie obtained an associate’s degree from University of North Texas and enjoyed a successful career as a real-estate broker. She was drawn to horses and horseback riding was a hobby and passion for her. As a young woman, she worked at the horse race track in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She was known for her love of thrifting and junk collecting. She and one of her grandsons had a standing Saturday morning garage sale date. She saw potential in things others may not have and was always willing to give them a second chance. That sentiment was true for the people in her life as well.

Life was an adventure for Val. She visited Europe, New Zealand, Mexico and Alaska. Those trips made an impact on her and filled the stories she would tell for years to come. She documented her trips with her photography skills and was always chasing the perfect shot. Shouts of, “Pull over, I want to take a picture of that” were common to any road trip. Known as VeVe by her grandchildren, she never missed an opportunity to show her love and support of them. She was happy to cheer them on at all of their activities – sporting events, band concerts and dance recitals – to name a few. The grandchildren were truly her pride and joy.

When health problems seemed to be more than most would be able to bear, Valerie fought with a tenacious spirit. One of her beloved doctors remarked that she was the most resilient person he knew. That truth is a comfort to those that love Valerie most. She never stopped supporting others and her generosity was a trait admired by her friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Kerr and husband Kevin; Siblings, Johnny Wood and wife Debbie, Dennis Wood, Jodi Fries and husband Toby, and Casey Jean. Her grandchildren are Hudson (15), Carson (13), and Katherine (9) Kerr, and her nephews are Jonathan and Jordan Wood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Erath County Humane Society.
