STEPHENVILLE – As the sun set on the Tarleton State Softball Complex, the Texans got an early two-run lead that carried them to their second win of the season Friday.

The contest under the lights was one in which runs were at a premium, but the Purple and White saw themselves on the right side of the one-run affair.

After tossing the final three outs of the Texans’ first season home opener win in the Mark Cumpain era, Hannah Blincoe got the start in the circle on day two of the season for Tarleton State.

In the top of the first, Blincoe made quick work of the Bison as she sat the first three down in order. Things stayed quiet on the offensive side for both teams until the bottom of the third.

In the bottom half of inning number three, Kalyn Hill put the Texans on the board scoring the lone runs of the night for the Purple and White. With Austin Germain on the base paths after reaching with a single to left field, Hill sent a shot down the left field line making it 2-0 Texans and tallied her first long ball of her senior campaign.

The next two innings were quiet for both teams before the Bison put up their lone run of the contest in the top of the sixth. With a wild pitch by the Texans, Haley Speicher came in to score from third making it 2-1, the eventual final.

For the Texans, Cumpian used three different arms in Blincoe, Kynlee Marquez and Shelby Schultz to get the job done. Blincoe tossed 5.2 IP allowing five hits and just the lone run while she stuck out three and walked one. Marquez threw 0.2 IP while she walked one and threw a wild pitch allowing the Bison run. After a spectacular collegiate debut Thursday in which she tossed 6.0 IP, struck out seven and earned her first collegiate win, Schultz locked down the final 0.2 IP securing the Purple and White’s second win of the 2025 campaign. Blincoe earned the win and moves to 1-0 at home while Schultz picked up her first collegiate save.

For the Bison, just two arms were used in Madison Roukey and Savannah Jones. Roukey went 4.0 IP and was credited with the loss and moves to 0-1 on the season. She gave up two runs on five hits, struck out four while walking one. Jones finished the game out for the Bison tossing the final 2.0 IP striking out four and giving up just a single hit.

Tarleton State will return to action on Saturday as they will play two games in one day for the lone time this tournament. The Texans will face the Marist Red Foxes at 2:30 p.m. and will then close out Day 3 of the Texan Classic when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. This marks the first of two meetings with the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on the weekend.
