
STEPHENVILLE – After cashing in on their first run-rule walk-off win of the season on Friday, the Texans did it once again Saturday defeating South Dakota State 10-1 (6) before falling in Game 2, 7-3 to Akron in the first of two meetings on the weekend.

Senior pitcher, Alexa Rehmeier earned the start in the circle, her first, to start the Texans Day 2 of the Whataburger Invitational. This marked Rehmeier’s fourth appearance on the season.
Both squads wasted no time getting on the board as both put up a run in the first inning.
The Jackrabbits got on the board as Abby Gentry singled to center field scoring Akayla Barnard to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. In the bottom of the frame, JJ Duke singled to right field driving in Austin Germain to knot things up 1-1. The second inning saw both squads put up a goose egg before the Texans added two in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the third, head coach Mark Cumpian went to his bullpen as Shelby Schultz made her first appearance from the pin looking to continue her dominance in the circle as she averaged seven strikeouts a game as she made her fourth appearance for the Purple and White.
With the game tied 1-1 in the third, Kiana Gibson singled scoring Duke and Casey Schultz to put the home team up 3-1. The fourth inning saw the Texans once again put up a two spot to move the lead to four.
With bases loaded in the fourth, Casey Schultz walked as Germain trotted to home to make it 4-1. With Tristyn Trull on third after advancing on the bases loaded walk, Duke hit a sac fly to center field scoring Trull to put the Purple and White up 5-1.
The fifth inning was quiet for both sides before Tarleton State called game in the bottom of the sixth.
With a four-run lead, the Texans entered the sixth inning looking to end things early in Game 1 of the day.
With bases loaded once again, Blinn transfer, Haley Hughes pinch hit for Bella Hernandez as she reached base safely on an error by the catcher as Kalyn Hill scored from third making it 6-1. Gibson then singled down the left field line driving in two more runs to make it 8-1 as Duke and Casey Schultz scored.
As the bases continued to be juiced, Germain was back at the plate with the opportunity for her second run-rule walk-off in two days. The San Antonio, Texas, native, did just that hitting back-to-back walk-off hits. She singled to right center as both Hughes and Gibson scored ending things for Game 1 as the home team won 10-1 in six innings.
For the Texans, Rehmeier went two innings as she gave up one run (earned) on four hits as she walked three and stuck out one. Shelby Schultz (W, 2-1) tossed the final four innings as she gave up just two hits while she walked one and struck out seven matching her collegiate career high and sustained her seven strikeouts per appearance average. She cashed in as she earned her second win of the season.
For the Jackrabbits, they used four different arms in the run-rule walk-off loss. Tayler Baker (L, 1-1) got the start as she went 2.2 innings and took the loss. Baker gave up three runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out three. Hailey Herman went just 0.2 IP as she gave up two runs (both earned) on one hit as she walked three Texans. Madi Mangulis then entered as she went 2.1 IP giving up the final five runs on four hits as she struck out three. Amanda Vacanti entered but did not record an out as she was charged with one hit and hit one Texan.

The night cap saw the Texans fall once again as the Texans moved to 2-2 in the 2025 edition of the Whataburger Invitational.
The Zips wasted no time getting things going as they put up four runs across the first two innings.
Sophia Wygast singled up the middle in the top of the first scoring Meagan Lee to give the visitors the early 1-0 as they never trailed in the ballgame.
The next innings, Akron tacked on another three runs to move the lead to 4-0. Brooke Sivek reached on an error as Delaney Jenkinson scored from just 60 feet out to go up 2-0. Lily Sullivan then doubled to left field as Sivek made it 3-0. Alexis Campbell singled to shortstop as Sullivan came home to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the third, Trull flew out to center field as Hannah Reed scored to cut the deficit to three, 4-1. The fourth inning cut the lead in half as Gibson flew out to left field, but Duke was able to tag up and score to make it 4-2.
The fifth inning saw goose eggs from both sides before the road team added two of their final three runs of the game.
Sullivan doubled to right center scoring Meagen Lee to push the lead to 5-2. Katie Cantrell then walked with bases loaded as the visitors went up 6-2.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Hernandez singled up the middle scoring Casey Shultz making it 6-3.
The Zips tacked on one final run in the top of the seventh as Wygast singled up the middle scoring Sivek to make it 7-3, the final.
Tarleton State used a trio of arms in Kynlee Marquez, Sadie Beck and Hannah Blincoe. Marquez earned her second start of the season as she went just 1.2 IP as she gave up four runs (one earned)on five hits while she walked one and was charged with an error. Beck pitched the meat of the contest as she went four innings as she gave up two runs (both earned) on five hits, struck out three and walked three as well. Blincoe tossed the final 1.1 innings allowing one run (earned) on two hits, struck out one and walked one.
Akron used just a single arm as Macy Walters earned the complete game win as she moved to 3-0 on the season. She gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits, struck out two and walked a lone Texan.
The Purple and White returns to action Sunday afternoon as the Texans will look to earn a revenge win and finish the weekend 3-2 and move to 7-3 on the season as Tarleton State will face off with Akron at 2:15 p.m.
