September 28, 1939 ~ March 16, 2025 (age 85)

H.T. “Tom” Loutherback, 85, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, in Stephenville, TX. Services for Tom will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County with Pastor Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Tom’s service 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County.

Tom was born in Corsicana, TX on September 28, 1939, to his parents H.A. Loutherback and Myrtice (Boyd) Loutherback. He married Nita Loutherback on October 27, 1996, in Ennis, TX. He attended Stephenville Public School for 12 years and graduated in 1958. He was an all-star little league pitcher in Stephenville, Texas for many years. He attended college at SMU in Dallas, Texas on a football scholarship for one year before transferring and playing football for Tarleton State University in 1959. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1963. He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Erath County.

Tom was a sales manager for most of his career and after retirement he went on to become an independent carrier for the Stephenville Empire-Tribune newspaper for 14 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and building model airplanes. He was an avid reader and loved working on crossword puzzles, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Nita Loutherback of Stephenville, Texas; children, Julie Moore and husband Bernie of Weatherford, Texas, Jill Rogers of Stephenville, Texas, Kevin Oates and wife Connie of Ennis, Texas, Vicki Nixon and husband David of Frisco, Texas; daughter in law, Kendra Loutherback-Cunningham; grandchildren, Micah Smith, Austin Smith, Alex Rogers, Jace Rogers, Luke Loutherback, Cooper Loutherback, Lanie Loutherback, Jeremy Oates, Jared Oates, Richelle Trevino, Jordan Oates, Cristen Quinones, Samantha Crain, and Casey Nixon; sister, Shirley Denman; and many great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Thomas Loutherback, on February 15, 2019.
