Nina Rae Schrader was born on May 1, 1931, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Jesse H. Powell and Mary Herrin Powell. She was united in marriage to Cecil Schrader on May 6, 1950. Together they had one daughter, Lois Jean Schrader Hicks.
Nina Rae was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Cecil, her granddaughter, Shellie Guerts (Hicks), and her great-grandson, Will Guerts. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jesse Powell, and sister, Frankie Lee Blackmon.
She passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, creativity, and faith. Nina is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Nickie Hicks of Dublin, Texas; grandson, Steven Hicks and wife, Zaneta, of Stephenville, Texas; and granddaughter, Amanda Wilson and husband, David, of Glen Rose, Texas. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Rachel Bridges, Layne Hicks, Charlie Hicks, Abigail Wilson, and Levi Wilson.
Nina Rae was a gifted musician, a talented artist, and a creative soul. A lifelong pianist and organist, she played faithfully for local churches, nursing homes, and Rotary clubs. She loved blessing others through music, often accompanying her dear friend Fannie Chambers, who sang at funerals. Over the course of her life, she played piano and the organ at more than 800 funeral services, always offering comfort and hope through her music.
Her artistic talents extended beyond music. Nina Rae was a gifted painter of old photographs, working skillfully in pastels and oils. She enjoyed crafting pillows and handmade dolls, selling them to anyone who wished for a piece of her handy work. She also poured her creativity into making Hallmark-style greeting cards for her church and her family, each one crafted with love and care.
In addition to her many talents, Nina Rae had a heart for helping others. She and her daughter Lois started the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) chapter in Dublin, which ran successfully for 18 years, encouraging countless women along their journey to better health.
Nina Rae retired from working outside the home, dedicating her life to her family, church, art, and music. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, and later a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Stephenville, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00am at Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin, Texas, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Nina Rae will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Cecil at New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery. While no formal graveside service will be held, family and friends are welcome to visit the cemetery at a later time to pay their respects.
Nina Rae’s life was a beautiful symphony of faith, love, creativity, and service. A legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
