STEPHENVILLE – What seemed to be going the road teams way early on took a turn towards the Purple and White’s way Saturday as the Texans completed the Game 3 comeback to sweep the Lancers of California Baptist 3-0.

After the Texans went down 0-1 early on, senior Tristyn Trull decided she needed another regular season long ball just like she did 364 days before but under different circumstances.

In the top of the first, the Lancers jumped out early for their lone lead of the game as Kate Penberthy hit a sac fly to center scoring one to make it 1-0 CBU.

The 1-0 lead held for the road team until the fifth inning when Trull had something to say about it. After hitting the WAC Tournament clinching walk-off home run vs. Southern Utah just 364 days ago, the senior decided she needed another homer to end this year’s regular season. With fellow senior Austin Germain on, Trull sent a shot to left center putting the Texans up 2-1. Kalyn Hill then reached base before giving way to pinch runner Riley McDaniel still in the fifth. A few batters later, Jaelynn Duke hit a single to center to make it 3-1 and put the home team up by a pair as McDaniel scored once again on the weekend.

In the top of the seventh, the Lancers gave it one last ditch effort to avoid the sweep but fell short only being able to push across a single run. Penberthy was once again the one to put her team on the board this time singling to center scoring another run to make it 3-2, the final.

For the Texans, Cumpian went with four different arms to get the job done after his pair of aces tossed a combined 271 pitches to secure the doubleheader Friday night. Senior Alexa Rehmeier earned the start on senior day as she went three innings allowing just a single run (unearned) on just two hits. She also struck out a pair and walked three. Kynlee Marquez (W, 5-2), another senior took the circle and went three innings as well picking up her fifth with of the season. She allowed just three hits and struck out one. Sadie Beck then took over getting the first out of the seventh before giving way to Shelby Schultz. Beck gave up one run (earned) on one hit and also walked one. Shelby Schultz (S, 3) went the final two-and-a-thirds inning as she allowed just a single hit picking up her third save of the year.

For the Lancers, Lili Arana (L, 7-3) went 4.2 IP allowing all three runs (all earned) on three hits while she also walked a half dozen and struck out just two. Morgan McConnell then took over in the circle going the final 1.1 IP. She gave up just a single hit as she struck out one.

Tarleton State now awaits to find out who they will play as the Purple and White have earned a double bye after securing the No. 2 seed with the Game 1 win Friday night. The double bye means the Texans won’t touch the field one bit on Wednesday but will see their first action at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday when Tarleton State sees their first WAC Tournament action of 2025.
