(September 6, 1949 — May 16, 2025)
Donald (Don, Donnie) Troy Cotten passed away peacefully at his home in Glen Rose, Texas on May 16, 2025, at the age of 75 after an extended battle with cancer. He is now joined with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Don was born September 6, 1949, in Flagstaff, Arizona, but got to Texas as fast as he could. He grew up in Brownsboro, Texas, where he attended school. Don attended the University of Kentucky and later attended seminary school. Don was a pastor in Kentucky and Tennessee for many years. He also had the honor of preaching at revivals with Billy Graham. Don was a legendary landman working at Pipeline Land Services and at Quicksilver as Right of Way Manager for North America.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Desmond Cotten and Annie Juanita Kethan; wife Greta New; sister Nancy Doss; and brother David O’Neal.
Don is survived by his loving family, his wife Nancy Cotten; his son James and wife Theresa Cotten; Nancy’s children Dale and his wife Kristin Davis and Abby and her husband Mason Goode; sisters Jean and her husband Ron Moshier and Mary and her husband Roy Hamilton; grandchildren Trevor, Victoria, Isabella, Brittany, Katelyn, Bradley and Connor.
Don was known for his sparkling blue eyes, wit, and generosity. He loved Harley motorcycles, horses, UT Longhorns, golf, and country music (the louder the better). Don also loved nothing better than sitting on the porch, admiring his well-mowed lawn, dee-jaying music, and watching children enjoy the pool. He loved to take his grandchildren for a spin on a tractor or horse.Don was the life of the party who effortlessly brought people together with his infectious laugh and warm personality. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Services for Don will be Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Cowboy Church 4945 US-67, Stephenville Texas. Visitation at 10:00 AM. Service led by Jay Mills and Brother Werth Mayes at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Somervell County Food Bank “PaPa’s Pantry” in Glen Rose, Texas.
