
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Victoria Cameron, as well as the women’s 4×100 meter relay, punched their tickets to the 2025 NCAA National Championships on the final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds to total seven Texans for the program’s first-ever appearance at the event in Eugene.
In the program’s first-ever appearance in at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, seven of the 11 Texans who competed at Texas A&M punched their ticket to Oregon. The Texans are sending the most athletes to Oregon among all teams in the WAC. Utah Valley is second with five athletes, including a relay squad then followed by GCU, CBU and Southern Utah with one each. The Purple and White will have an athlete or relay in five different events, the rest of the WAC will be in five events as well.
“These young ladies have worked very hard all year long, and it showed today,” said head coach Bobby Carter. “We always tell our athletes to trust the process and great things will happen! Also, for Victoria Cameron to run another personal best and punch her ticket to nationals was very exciting to see. I am so proud of our entire team! Greater is coming!”
The 4×100 meter relay broke not only the school record, but also the all-time WAC record en route to qualifying for the NCAA National Championships. The quartet consists of Hanna Dudley, Lauren Roy, Amandine Estival and Cameron. The Purple and White clocked in at a season-best 43.66 to post the fourth-best time in their heat and eighth overall in the West.
Cameron ran her second race of the day, the 100 meters, just an hour and 25 minutes after running the anchor leg on the relay. Cameron didn’t disappoint, winning her heat and posting the second-fastest qualifying time. Not only did she qualify, but the sophomore crushed the all-time WAC record and her school record for the fifth time this season. She crossed in 11.01 seconds, one hundredth of a second behind the top time in the region by USC. Cameron is the only non-Power Four sprinter in the region heading to Oregon. She did not run in the 200 shortly after the conclusion of the 100.
Sofia DeGroot opened the day in the women’s triple jump. Her best jump of 12.66 meters came on her second jump and she placed ninth after the first two flights. Overall, she finished in 31st place.
In the first three days of competition, three Texans punched their tickets to Oregon. Lokesh Sathyanathan was the first to do so, jumping 7.87 meters twice in the men’s long jump to finish fourth overall. Prestina Ochonogor was next on Thursday, also in the long jump. The WAC Freshman of the Year posted the second-best jump with a 6.66-meter leap. Sir Jonathan Sims punched his ticket in the triple jump on Friday after falling short in the long jump on Wednesday. Sims finished ninth in the triple jump with a best leap of 15.93 meters. He will be making his second trip to Oregon after being one of four jumpers last year to qualify in both the triple and long jump last year.
In total, the Texans sent 11 athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Male sprinters Ca’terrin Cox and David Mvundura made their debuts on Wednesday. Cox finished in 37th in the 110 hurdles in 14.13 seconds. Mvundura finished 28th in the 200 in 20.96 seconds and 34th in the 100 in 10.54 seconds. On Thursday, Roy and Estival competed in the 200 meters. Roy finished in 32nd in 23.56 seconds and Estival finished in 38th in 23.79 seconds.
With just one day left at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, the top 12 in each event of the final day will earn themselves a trip to Eugene. The Purple and White have two individuals still looking to punch their tickets to Eugene, Ore., as well as a four-woman relay team. The NCAA National Championships will be held at Hayward Field from June 11-14.
