Sharon, Brower Lead Tarleton State’s Effort Monday at CNFR

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University saddle bronc rider Waitley Sharon posted an 84 to lead Monday’s slack at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo.

The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Region champion carries a 166.5 on two head, including his first go 82.5 on Sunday. Teammate and fellow saddle bronc rider Coleman Shallbetter earned sixth with a 75 in Monday’s competition, with a two-ride 156.

Tarleton State tie-down roper Brayden Roe was second Monday with an 8.7-second time and steer wrestler Landris White flashed a 4.1 for third. 

Tori Brower’s 6.2 in goat tying tied her for second place in Monday’s slack. In barrel racing, Jordan Driver’s 14.45 was sixth and Hadley Tidwell turned in a 14.75, placing 17th.

In both the slack and evening performances, three Tarleton State Texans will compete. Driver in barrel racing, White in steer wrestling and Montgomery Parsons in saddle bronc.

The slack performance will also feature Tidwell, Brower, breakaway ropers Jacelyn Frost and Kaylie Garza, tie-down roper Brayden Roe and saddle bronc rider Bailey Small.

The CNFR continues all week and will be capped by Saturday’s championship finals.
