Tarleton State’s Lauren Roy breaks Ireland National Record in Women’s 4×100 Relay at London Diamond League

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State’s Lauren Roy was a member of the Ireland 4×100 relay team that set the new Ireland national record on Saturday at the London Diamond League.

Roy was the third leg on the team consisting of Sarah Leahy, Ciara Neville and Sarah Lavin that clocked in at 43.73 seconds. Team Ireland finished fourth in the field of seven teams. Great Britain won the crown setting a new world lead time of 41.69 seconds. The London Diamond League race was just the second time that the quartet has raced together. They will run again as a group in August at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The Tarleton State senior has been competing this summer on the national circuit this summer for Team Ireland. Roy who was a member of the Tarleton State women’s 4×100 Second Team All-American at the NCAA National Championships relay last month has been consistently appearing for Team Ireland in the same event as well as the open 200-meter dash.

The quartet broke the previous record set by Team Ireland in 2018 at the European Athletics Champions in Berlin, Germany. The team of Joan Healy, Phil Healy, Ciara Neville, Gina Akpe-Moses clocked in at 43.80 seconds.

Roy will have just a few days off before competing in Germany for both Team Ireland and Tarleton State at the 2025 World University Games. Roy will join Tarleton State’s Sir Jonathan Sims at the Games, who will be competing in the long jump for Team USA.
