Texans victorious in rematch with ULM, nearly knock off host Islanders in Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI – Tarleton State Beach Volleyball emerged victorious in its rematch with ULM to highlight its four-match weekend at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, Friday-Saturday.

The Texans (6-16) went 1-3 at the event, with a 3-2 win over ULM, a 3-2 loss against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, a 5-0 loss against Pepperdine, then a 3-2 loss against Cal State Bakersfield.

Tarleton State opened its run with the victory against the Warhawks. Those teams first squared off on March 14 in Monroe, Louisiana, with ULM winning 3-2. Like the first meeting, Tarleton State’s pairs of Allison Bryant with Candace Ceballos, and Camilla Chun with Emily Vickers, won their matches against the Warhawks. The difference this time was Salome Galvez Lira and Taylor Orris winning, pushing the Texans ahead in the team score 3-2. Bryant and Ceballos defeated Abby Ryno and Claire Williamson on Court 1 22-20 21-19. Chun and Vickers defeated Paige Ingersoll and Avery Hunter 13-21 21-18 15-11 on Court 2. Galvez Lira and Orris defeated Izabela Zukowska and Samantha Rodriguez on Court 4 21-16 21-19.

The Texans played the same five pairs on the same courts all weekend long, with Bella Parayno and Christian Mitchell on Court 3, and Angelina Linke and Sofia Bendele on Court 5.

Bryant and Ceballos powered the Texans, going 3-1 together on the top court. Besides their win over ULM, they also defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s Madison Morrow and Kristin Bobay 21-16 21-19, then Cal State Bakersfield’s Olivia Silacci-Jensen and Emma Neville 22-20 21-18. Bryant and Ceballos now have the most wins and the best winning percentage on the team, going 11-11 together, 7-10 on Court 1 and 4-1 on Court 2.

Besides Bryant and Ceballos, each other Texan pair won a match on the weekend, each finishing 1-3. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Parayno and Mitchell defeated Bryce Ranney and Mil Maxwell Berthou 21-17 21-8 on Court 3. Against Cal State Bakersfield, Linke and Bendele defeated Havi Montano and Katey Milne 23-21 15-21 15-13.

Bendele and Linke now have the tied-second most wins as a pair on the Texans with seven (7-12), all on Court 5.

These were Tarleton State’s final regular season road matches. The Texans will play four home matches to wrap up their 2026 regular season, a doubleheader against Howard Payne on Thursday with matches at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., then a pair of Friday matches at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., first against Mary Hardin-Baylor and closing against East Texas Baptist. All matches will be free for fans to attend at the Tarleton State Beach Volleyball Courts in Stephenville.
